Breakfast in bed

For the third year in a row, the kids brought me breakfast in bed for Mother's Day. This year, they managed it all alone because their Dad is on call this weekend.  Last night, Deano coached GJ before tucking him into bed.  The two of them staged everything in advance, draping a dishtowel over the breakfast tray to disguise my "surprise."  Here is the very adorable breakfast that the kids delivered to me at 6:30 this morning.

Then it was time to get to work on their breakfast.  While they ate, I interviewed them using questions about mothers that I received in a mass email last week.  Here is a selection of the questions and their answers, un-embellished:

Why did God make mothers?
GJ: To take care of their kids.
Sofia: To love you and make you stuff.
Johnny: So childs can... like... have breakfast, lunch, and dinner and so that they can take care of us.

How did God make mothers?
Sofia: Build ‘em.  Build.  Build!
GJ: Magic
John:  I don’t know about that.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
Sofia: Carrots?....Just kidding. Ok...Ok...Mommy's made of brains.
GJ:  Small intestines, big intestines.  …..I mean large intestines (my bad).
Johnny: Well....they have their heart.

Why do you think you got your mommy and not some other mommy?
Johnny:  I think because we are good kids and we eat healthy foods, and we're nice....and friendly.  And because we're good and stuff.
GJ: because you love Daddy and you married him and you got babies and they became kids and you were a mama

What kind of little girl was your mommy?
Johnny: I think you were wearin' a tutu.
GJ:  I think with long hair.  I think mama was silly.

What did Mom need to know about Dad before she married him?
Sofia: Uh....a ring!
GJ:  That he was nice -- really, really nice.  And you need to like him.
Johnny: Didn't you like... meet him and fall in love with him?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
Johnny: Because you have to have a dad and stuff.  You have to have a dad or you can’t have childs.

Who’s the boss at your house?
Sofia:  Mommy and Daddy.
GJ:  Mommy and Daddy but I am sometimes the boss of John and Boo.
Johnny:  Mostly Daddy.

What’s the difference between moms and dads?
Johnny: The difference is that a mommy is the one that buys our house and cars and stuff.  The Dad is the one that is the boss of the cars and the stuff.
GJ:  That’s an easy one.  Mom’s a girl and Dad’s a boy.
Sofia:  You have long hair and Daddy does not have long hair as you.  And that’s it.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
GJ: If Mommy would say yes to whatever I asked her.
Sofia: If you swept up!
Johnny: I would change her brain so she’d be smarter.

What is your favorite thing about your mommy?
Sofia: her bweakfast-es
GJ: Lots of kisses from her
Johnny: My mommy makes spaghetti and meatballs for me that is irresistible.
